Congratulations (again!) to Jasmine Wilkins and Etienne Maughan, who both improved their own Senior Women's club records whilst competing in the British Universities Championships on 23rd February.

  • Jasmine's time of 7.60 seconds for the 60m beats the old record by two-hundredth of a second.
  • Etienne's time of 8.36 seconds for the 60m hurdles beats the old record by four-hundredths of a second.

Jasmine's 7.62 is also an Under 20 Women's record for the club.

Etienne and Jasmine both reached the final of their events, with Etienne finishing fourth and Jasmine sixth.

Well done to both!

Congratulations to Jasmine Wilkins and Etienne Maughan, who both set Senior Women's club records competing in the UK Indoor Championships on 17th February (Results from the UK Athletics Indoor Championships).

  • Jasmine's time of 7.62 seconds for the 60m beats the old record by one-hundredth of a second.
  • Etienne's time of 8.40 seconds for the 60m hurdles beats the old record by three-hundredths of a second.

Jasmine's 7.62 is also an Under 20 Women's record for the club.

Well done to both!

In addition to Tenny James winning the M65 60m Hurdles at the British Masters Indoor Championships at Lee Valley on Saturday (Tenny Wins British Masters Gold), there were other Bedford athletes in action too over the weekend.

There were victories for:

  • Bob Kingman   3.70 metres M50 Pole Vault
  • Edith Caux        76.55 meteres W65 400m

Jemma Eastwood also set a new club W45 Pole Vault record of 3.30 metres, but as she was unable to compete in the W45 competition on the Sunday she non scored in the Men's Competition on the Saturday. Her performance was the best W45 performance by about 1 metre, but technically she did not win the W45 PV Championships.

The other Bedford competitors were:

  • Steve Bass 4th M50 60m Hurdles  9.92 secs
  • Peter Benedickter 4th M50 400m  58.93 secs
  • Oriana Johnson 4th W60 Shot 6.80m
  • Graeme Packman 4th M65 Shot 8.68m

There have been a rash of new club records recently.  Congratulations to:

  • Etienne Maughan on her Senior Women's record of 8.43 seconds for 60 Metres Hurdles.
  • Both Etienne Maughan and Jasmine Wilkins, who now jointly hold the new Senior Women's 60m record of 7.63 seconds.
    • Jasmine's 7.63 seconds is also Under 20 Women's 60m record!
  • Jemma Eastwood on her W40 Pole Vault record of 3.26 metres (this is both an Indoor and a main club record).
  • Edith Caux who set a W65 200m record of 33.09 seconds and a W65 400m record of 76.41 seconds.

And finally, the Under 17 Women's 60 Metres Hurdles has been corrected to 8.77 seconds - a time that Etienne Maughan ran back in 2020.

Well done to all the record breakers, and their coaches.

Indoor Success

Under 23 Etienne Maughan has been having an amazing indoor season - with her hurdle times improving in every race. The highlight (so far) was a silver medal from the Southern Senior Indoor Championships at Lee Valley on 3rd February, when she ran 8.43 seconds for a silver medal in the 60 Metres Hurdles. This ranks Etienne 8th in the UK senior rankings, and is also a club record.

In fact, to date, Etienne has run inside the old Senior Women's 60M Hurdles club record of 8.69 seconds (which she set in 2022) five times this season.

In addition, Etienne clocked a time of  7.63 seconds for the 60m flat at Loughborough on the 13th January - another club record.

Congratulations on the club records Etienne, and good luck for the UK Indoor Championships in Birmingham this weekend!

Congratulations to Thaila Jade Mason and Lyla Danobrega, who have set new club indoor records recently.

Lyla set a new Under 20 Women's 1500m record of 4:46.12 at the England Indoor Championships in Sheffield on 11th February.

Meanwhile Thaila set two new Under 17 Women's records: 9.06 seconds for the 60m Hurdles at Lee Valley on 27th January, and 5.87 metres for the Long Jump at the England Indoor Championships in Sheffield on 11th February.

SEAA Indoor Championships

The South of England Indoor Championships produced two gold medals for Bedford athletes at the weekend. On Saturday, Zaphaniah Bryan cleared a superb new personal best height of 1.88m to claim the U17 Men’s High Jup title; whilst on Sunday Thaila Jade Mason’s 5.59m long jump was more than sufficient to pocket the U17 women’s Long Jump gold.  Congratulations to both athletes!
